On the Tigerfish on our way out to the break for the start of the contest. Once we got past the seawall there was no time for photos, just holding on for dear life until we reached our position for the first heat.

Climb the Mountain

This is one of only two pics we actually got from the boat in the harbor and it doesn’t do it justice – but take a closer look at the angle. We are at the bottom of a mountain of water, climbing to reach the top – and when we get there, we will then take the same steep angle to try to get to the bottom. By the end of the trip everyone was completely drenched – but it was absolutely the best roller coaster ride I’ve EVER taken. FANTASTIC – but not for the weak of heart or constitution.

Carving the Wave

Peter Mel pulls some nice turns at the bottom of this giant. Usually, the surfers are just racing to stay ahead of the breaking wave. Here, Pete is nicely placed on the shoulder and has a chance to carve a couple of turns.

The Press Boat

Here’s the press boat – Huli Cat – riding the water all calm like. Later, we would play cat-and-mouse with it as their captain tried to back us out of our position. Our Captain was not having it (we weren’t blocking their view/shots) and he was a much better jockey.
